HOTEL PESTANO TROPICO, Prainha, Santiago Island
Situated in one of the better residential areas of Praia, the
capital of the island. The hotel is in the embassy district, by
the ocean, with a well frequented restaurant. It is run by the Pestano
Hotels and Resorts group, a Portuguese hotel group with resorts
around the world. The hotel is on a peninsular, about 300 m from
Cidade da Praia's main beach. Just down the road from

Rooms
44 comfortable bedrooms, on two floors, all with ocean or pool
views. Bedrooms and bathrooms have tiled floors. Bathroom (large)
has bath and shower (baths are rare in Cape Verde), mini bar. Rooms
have pool or sea views. Air conditioning, satellite TV with international
channels such as CNN and RRL), minibar, direct dial telephone, hair
dryer.
Dining
Breakfast is set out as a buffet. Lunch and dinner are served in
the restaurant - waiter service. This can be a bit slow, and the
guests may not get served in the right order. The hotel claims to
have the best food in Santiago and attracts diners from around Praia.
Comments from Cape Verde Jetaway
Having stayed in many hotels in Cape Verde, this gave a particularly
warm and efficient welcome. For those wishing to visit the capital
of the Cape Verde Islands, this hotel offers the advantages of being
in a better district (the president lives close by), yet with easy
access to the bustle. The hotel is on a headland, with the sea on
one side. The hotels in central Praia have not been developed as
tourist hotels, and if you want to be near the sea you will need
to be outside the central district. It is also a lot safer than
the central area of Praia. There is a pale sandy beach within a
few hundred yards of the Pestano Tropico, which is mainly used by
locals. If you want a beach holiday, take a day trip to Tarrafal,
or consider staying there or on a different island. Primarily, our
guests come here in order to have a stop-over in Santiago on their
way to Maio, or for a property inspection trip. There is ADSL internet
available in some rooms, and the hotel is with reach of the major
planned developments and properties for sale on Santiago such as
Sambala and Santiago Golf Resort.
Guest comments
Although I imagined that this would be purely a business hotel,
it combined a blend of business and holiday makers. The number of
holiday makers has risen since the airport at Santiago has taken
international flights. The decor has obviously taken some thought,
and the whole effect is rather pleasing. C from London.
